Binding Jig: Routing

First read and understand all instructions in your router manual, as well as follow proper safety precautions.

Install the 1 1/4" diameter router bit supplied with your Binding Jig. Be sure that the bit does not bottom out in the router chuck.

The depth of cut into the sides is adjusted by the router moving back and forth in its base.

The depth of cut into the top/back is adjusted by the 12 rollers. Each roller is marked with its diameter (31 - 20 mm).

The 31mm roller is used to flush up the top and back. It is set to cut into the side slightly to aid sanding and flattening.

The sides can now be sanded flat. The binding/purfling cuts will replicate the contour of the sides, so any bumps or hollows must be sanded out.

The cut for the binding is now made. A flat board should be used for test cuts. This board will also serve as reference for your purfling cuts.

When you are satisfied with the binding cut, route one full side of the test board for purfling reference.

The purfling cuts can now be made.

Fine adjustments to the roller diameter can be made with the fiber-tape supplied.
